Zurab Khizanishvili is a football player born on October 6, 1981 in Tblisi, Georgia. His father Nodar Khizanishvili was also a well known football player. He has played for USSR and helped Dinamo Tblisi to the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1981.


At the age of 17, Zurab Khizanishvili got a call from Georgian coach Johan Boskampf to represent his national team, and has been playing regularly since then.


Zurab Khizanishvili began his professional football career by playing for Dinamo Tbilisi. A season later, he moved on to Football Club Tbilisi. In 1999, he signed a deal with Lokomotiv Tbilisi. During his stint at the club, he impressed several European clubs with his brilliant performance on the field.


In March 2001, he joined the Scottish football club Dundee and made a huge impact there. He moved to Rangers in March 2003. He was a part of the Glasgow Rangers team that won the 2005 Scottish Premier League Championship.


In August 2005, he moved to Blackburn Rovers on a loan to play in the English Premiership for the rest of the season. The next year, Zurab Khizanishvili signed a permanent contract with Blackburn Rovers, to play in the centre-back position.


Zurab Khizanishvili scored the first goal for the club in a game against Huddersfield. He considers the goal that came in a match against Manchester City memorable, because he scored against David James, who was England’s number one goalkeeper then.
Zurab Khizanishvili, in an interview, claimed that Maradona was his favorite player.
