In Search of Harmony
 

Genesis
It was during 1996, when the Ayodhaya and Babri Masjid issue had blown up into a major political issue that a group of like minded young students in Faizabad decided to intervene to bring about peace and communal harmony in the society, However not having any idea about “Development” the mode of intervention were in the form of activism. Schools were contacted to organize cultural events. A plantation drive was initiated with Canossa Social Centre. The focus all along was that people from all walks of life should join in the activities to work together in a sprit of brother hood. Therefore YRT was the first organization in the region to observe “ Sadbhavana Diwas”. It was finally in 2002 that the organization was formally registered.

Vision
YRT envisions a society where people irrespective of caste, clam, Religion ethnicity and gender, co-exist in a sprit of brotherhood and harmony.

Mission
To promote social harmony among the community focusing on access to basic health and care services and exploring the opportunities of sustainable livelihood through people participation.

Values

YRT views development as a process of empowerment necessitating people’s participation through formation of new CBO’s and promotion and strengthening of existing ones at the local level and promoting youth leadership.

Operational Area

YRT is intensively intervening in 6 Gram Panchayats of Poora Block, around 26 Km. from Faizabad. Besides, interventions are also organized along the river banks of Saryu. The target groups are people belonging to the deprived and marginalized sections of the society.

Staff
The staff comprises like minded individuals, both male and female. Besides, there are a large number of volunteers at the local level to assist in the interventions. YRT also enjoys good relations with the Government and various actors of Civil Society. These activities receive good coverage in the local media.

Major Interventions

Health and Care

Organizing the government sponsered MCH programme by providing Pre - Natal and Post- Natal care to the mothers through skilled mid-wives and immunization of the New-born babies to reduce the incidence of IMR and MMR.

Generating awareness about HIV / AIDS among the community residing on the river banks through meetings, trainings, workshops etc. as well as Blood Donation.

Emphasizing about the importance of adopting Sanitation and Hygienic practices to reduce the incidence of disease through environmental measures like Plantation and Solid Waste Management.

 

 

Sustainable Livelihood
A center providing training on designing of Artificial Jewellery items has been established in Faizabad where around 20 adolescent girls are undergoing training. Such items have a very good market in the district.

Two centers of TARA haat , a off shoot of Development Alternatives, one in Poora Block, Faizabad and one in Mihir purwa, Bahraich have been established where litrate adolcent girls primarily are undergoing training in computer literacy.

Future Plans
We still have a long way to go. In the immediate future, we will be focusing our interventions on Health and Livelihood of Rickshaw Pullers after a initial survey and also on Domestic Violence. We have to develop and strengthen CBO’s at the local level and either develop or transform some of them into Self Help Groups (SHG’s) for effective credit delivery. CBO’s on other specific issues with also be developed. A lot of attention will be paid to strenthing the PRI’s not only the Gram Panchayats but also the linkage with Block and District level ones. It will be the PRI’s who will sustain the interventions.

A Call to Action
YRT comprises a group of young men and women fired with zeal to intervene in the area of development and make a difference. Unfortunately, it lacks directions, guidance, and program organizing support. Paucity of funds does not allow us to hire professionally qualified staff or consultants who can provide the cutting edge of professionalism to our activities/ interventions. It is our fervent appeal to all to kindly provide us whatever assistance you can in cash or kind as well as educational support to enable us to march steadily towards our mission.
