In his twenties, Wright Thurston Sr. worked full time as a salesman for IBM. Before his 31st birthday, however, he had earned enough money from various real estate investments to fully support himself. Today, Wright Thurston Sr. and his wife Janett serve as Executive Directors at Melaleuca Inc., a company whose 2010 earnings exceeded $945 million. Mr. Thurston also regularly shares his investment strategies with audiences. He has given more than 3,000 presentations in the United States and around the world on individual and business success strategies.
Even before striking out on his own, Wright Thurston Sr. demonstrated an aptitude for sales. While working with IBM, he won regional and national marketing awards, including Regional Sales Leader and Salesman of the Year in Alaska. His tenure at IBM also included 6 consecutive years in the company’s 100% Club, a distinction granted to employees who met their annual sales quotas.
Despite his office success, Wright Thurston Sr. actively sought investment opportunities. His first outside project involved purchasing 5 investment properties, each of which had between 6 and 25 apartment units. By leasing these units, he soon reaped net earnings of $9,000 per month. Within a year and a half, he had earned his first million dollars. Wright Thurston Sr. left IBM after the success of his real estate ventures, which have ranged over more than 200 properties, including a hotel, a shopping mall, commercial land, apartment buildings, and part of a private island.
Wright Thurston Sr. has offered strategic real estate, investment, and computer tips to entrepreneurs around the world. Fortune 500 companies have reached out to him for sales and management advice, and he has served as president at 3 different companies, one of which earned revenues of more than $6 million in the first 2 years of his tenure. Wright Thurston Sr. is actively involved in his church and family and contributes to United Way Worldwide, Rotary International, and local school boards. He lives in Bluffdale, Utah.
