Wirt Morton grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. To prepare for college, he attended the non-sectarian Phoenix Country Day School not long after its founding in 1961. Wirt Morton majored in political science at Arizona State University, the largest higher institution for public research in the country. Since college, most of his professional activities have involved political consulting and marketing initiatives for businesses, public service campaigns, and the entertainment industry. Over the years, Wirt Morton has served as Creative Director for three different advertising and public relations agencies based in the state of Arizona. He has produced or directed more than 500 national video ads, winning awards as well as increased recognition for many name-brand products. He also founded a sports management company. In the public arena, Wirt Morton has worked as a political consultant for a variety of statewide Arizona initiatives and candidates. In Arizona alone, he aided former clients such as former Arizona Governor Evan Mecham, former State Attorney General Bob Corbin, and Stan Akers, former Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives. Wirt Morton has also made a specialty of promoting public service efforts such as the Bum Rap Campaign for the Homeless and the Save the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra drive. Recently, his efforts have focused on marketing entertainment products over the constantly evolving networks of communications media. Wirt Morton assists motion picture companies in developing strategies and providing financing for production and distribution. He had a brief stint as an actor on the television series Isis, in which he played the character of Charlie Michaels in the episode entitled “The Outsider,” that aired in November 1975. Wirt Morton takes an interest in historic trees and often travels to speak at tree plantings because his great-great-grandfather, J. Sterling Morton, led the drive to establish Arbor Day in Nebraska City, Nebraska in 1872.
