About William Howland MD
Austin, Texas allergist William Howland MD knows first hand what it’s like to grow up in a town with pollen counts often in the medium-high to high range. A native of Austin, William Howland MD has dedicated his professional life to help his fellow residents find relief. Voted one of the best doctors in Austin by the magazine Austin Monthly, William Howland MD has served as president of the Austin Allergy Society for the past three years.
In addition to his busy private practice, Allergy and Asthma Center of Austin, for more than fifteen years William Howland MD has been conducting research in the field of allergies and asthma, seeking to find new medications to ease symptoms. Growing up in Austin, Dr. Howland has suffered from allergies and asthma himself and is happy to be able to help others. “It is gratifying to be able to improve patient's health and quality of life with all the new procedures and medicines now available,” says William Howland MD. “Even though Austin is 'the allergy capital of the world', with proper treatment most people can feel fine and really enjoy all the wonderful things about Central Texas.”
In addition to treating those with seasonal allergies, William Howland MD works with patients who suffer from asthma and hives and allergic reactions to insect bites, drugs and foods. Dr. Howland stresses the importance of treating allergies in small children, as their reactions to allergens can significantly affect their quality of life and ability to participate in normal activities. Dr. William Howland MD sees patients as young as four years old and has a special interest in Cedar Fever, a wintertime allergy that affects Texans.
William Howland MD received his MD from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and is a member of the Phi Chi medical fraternity. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas in Austin, graduating Magna Cum Laude. William Howland MD completed his Internal Medicine Internship at Tulsa Medical College, his Internal Medicine Residency at Scott and White Hospital and his Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, California. His research has been widely published and he hosts a regular televised segment on KVUE news about allergies.
Prior to opening his own practice, William Howland MD worked for the Allergy and Asthma Center in St. Petersburg, Florida and with Allergy and Asthma Associates in Columbia, South Carolina. He also served as clinical assistant professor in the University of South Carolina’s School of Medicine. Currently, William Howland MD serves as medical director of Sirius Clinical Research, a pharmaceutical testing facility that seeks to find the best medical treatment for allergies and asthma. William Howland MD has been conducting research in the field of allergies and asthma for more than fifteen years.
Board certified in Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology, William Howland MD volunteers at Austin’s Volunteer Health Clinic, helping patients who might not be able to otherwise afford treatment.
In his spare time, William Howland MD plays bass in a rock band called Code Blue. Performing at venues around Austin, Code Blue is a classic rock cover band, performing songs by such acts as The Eagles, 38 Special and the Rolling Stones. Dr. Howland lives in Austin with his wife, Cindy, and two children. In addition to his love of music, William Howland MD enjoys photography, astronomy, and website development.
