Wes Brown, was born on October 13, 1979, in Longsight, Manchester. He is an English football player and as of 2008, he plays for Manchester United in the right or center-back defender position. He has two brothers, Clive and Reece, the latter of whom signed for the Manchester United at the young age of nine. Wes Brown and his wife, Leanne Wassel, have two daughters, Halle and Lilia.
Wes Brown found a place in the 2002 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup squad of England. His consistent good performance throughout the 2005-06 season earned him a recall to the squad for a friendly game against Uruguay. Wes Brown was called for the 2008 European Cup qualifiers match on September 2 by Steve McClaren, the English coach, where he replaced injured Rio Ferdinand, a fellow Manchester United team mate. He, along with John Terry, was the heart of the English defense in the win against Andorra. He also replaced John Terry, in a friendly match against Brazil on June 1, 2007. On August 20, 2007, at Wembley, in a friendly match against Czech Republic, David Beckham provided the cross to Wes Brown and he scored his first goal.
As a schoolboy, Wes Brown played for the Burnage High School and Fletcher Moss Rangers, a Greater Manchester youth side. He spent time both at the Football Association (FA) School of Excellence at Lilleshall, a village in Shropshire, England and the Football Academy of Manchester United. He professionally joined the boyhood club Manchester United on November 4, 1996 at an early age of 17. Wes Brown has been part of both the reserve and the youth teams that won the FA Youth Cup and the reserve team that won the Lancashire Division One medal. He has been honored with the Denzil Haroun Young Player of the Year award. His first team Premiership debut happened on May 4, 1998, though as a substitute, against Leeds United. The 1998-99 proved to be a good season for Wes brown, when he made several first team appearances, scored his first goal and finally the club went on to win the FA Premier League, FA Cup and the United European Football Association (UEFA) Champions League, capturing the legendary treble. Wes Brown made a strong comeback after a string of injuries in the 1999-2000 season and earned the reputation of the most talented defender of the Manchester United. He had a very good show in the three consecutive seasons starting with 2000-01, ending the 2003-04 season with a man-of-the-match performance in the FA Cup semi-final win over Arsenal. As of April 2008, Wes Brown has extended his contract with the club till 2013.
