About Wayne Geis
Wayne Geis Bio
Wayne Geis is a highly qualified acting and voice coach, having trained hundreds of students over the course of his career. Many of Wayne Geis' former students are now singing professionally. Wayne Geis is also a well-known actor and singer with more than 30 years of success in theater and opera both in the United States and Europe. Wayne Geis currently lives in New Jersey and teaches in Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, and New York City. Whether he is instructing individual students or group classes, Wayne Geis follows a teaching philosophy that combines detailed technical instruction in acting and singing with guidance on how students can reach their inner potential as performers. Wayne Geis strives to provide his students with the same inspirational instruction he received from his own teachers and coaches, including John Mace, Curt Dempster, and Virginia Gerhardt. Early in his career, Wayne Geis enjoyed many successful roles in theater and opera in Europe, performing under the name Erik Geisen. After playing Anachoret in De Temporum Fine Comoedia at the 1973 Salzberg Festival, Wayne Geis spent 15 years performing in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. His operatic voice enabled him to earn a reputation as one of the leading lyric tenors in Europe. Wayne Geis sang in opera houses in Berlin, Zurich, Vienna, Munich, Basel, Salzburg, and Saarbruecken. Notably, Wayne Geis was the first actor to perform the part of Prince Karl Franz in The Student Prince in the opera's original setting, Heidelberg Castle. Wayne Geis began his stage career in his native New York City, where he earned a role in A View from the Bridge, a Tony Award-winning drama by Arthur Miller. After appearing as Freddy in Kicking the Castle Down at Gramercy Arts Theater in New York, Wayne Geis appeared in operas such as Barber of Seville, La Boheme, Lucia di Lammermoor, The Tales of Hoffman, and Anna Bolena, as well as the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.
