Vincent Akhimie - Professional Summary:    

 

Vincent Akhimie currently serves as Director of Public Works for the City of Riviera Beach, Florida, applying extensive experience in civil engineering, urban planning, and environmental services. Mr. Akhimie began his management career in 1977, when he accepted a transportation planning post as a director with the nine-county Kentucky-Indiana Regional Planning and Development Agency based in Louisville, Kentucky. Over the next several decades, he proved himself a strong manager and leader as he moved from Kentucky to New Jersey and Connecticut, then on to Illinois and from 1994 to the present holding several positions in Florida. Mr. Akhimie has directed departments of city and county governments encompassing utilities, transportation, solid waste and storm water management, fleet and street maintenance, urban forestry, and other aspects of municipal asset management. Vincent Akhimie’s skills and expertise include intergovernmental relations, media relations, capital projects development and implementation, and policy analysis. In his work with the City of Riviera Beach, Vincent Akhimie has created the city’s first Master Maintenance Schedule and Stormwater Master Plan and completed its first five-year vehicle replacement initiative. Approaching difficult situations with pragmatic optimism as well as professional insight, Mr. Akhimie continues to provide Riviera Beach citizens with excellent service. Holding both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle, Vincent Akhimie undertook additional graduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and received his professional certification as a public manager from Florida State University. He is married and has two grown children. In his free time, he plays tennis and golf and organized a doubles league in his community. In addition, Mr. Akhimie finds time to support a number of charitable causes, including the United Way of Palm Beach. Vincent Akhimie is a former President of the Stamford, Connecticut, chapter of Lions Club International and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Stamford YMCA.
