About Val Bielecki

For 29 years, Val Bielecki served his country while working as an Assistant Regional Manager for the U.S. General Accounting Office. Today, this important organization goes by the name of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). As a nonpartisan, independent agency, GAO works for the U.S. Congress to audit and investigate how the government spends taxpayers’ money.

 

Until his retirement in 1988, Val Bielecki worked in the agency’s offices in New York City; Falls Church, Virginia; Washington, D.C.; and Frankfurt, Germany. Val Bielecki graduated from Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics with an emphasis in accounting in 1959. He went back to school in 1971 and attended the New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business, receiving his MBA in 1974.

 

During his years working for GAO, Val Bielecki rose through the ranks to a top management position, earning the chance to work at the European branch. This office sent him on assignments that took him throughout Europe, as well as Africa and the Middle East. Not long before he retired, Val Bielecki accepted a position with the House Appropriation Committee investigative staff. He currently lives in Ogden, Utah, where he enjoys skiing, fly fishing, biking, and reading.
