About United Patent Research, Olney, MD
Founded in 2007, United Patent Research (originally known as United Patent Resources) is a patent assistance company operated by Patrick Ralston. Based in Olney, Maryland, United Patent Research (originally known as United Patent Resources) assists investors in all aspects of bringing an invention to market.
The initial step in United Patent Research’s (originally known as United Patent Resources) idea development process is an evaluation phase. As President, Patrick Ralston employs a team of experts in various fields, including Physics, Biochemistry, and Engineering. These experts evaluate a potential idea to determine its likelihood of success. Subsequently, United Patent Research (originally known as United Patent Resources) assists inventors in making any necessary modifications to their initial designs.
The next step is patenting the new idea. United Patent Research (originally known as United Patent Resources) can provide accredited patent attorneys to prepare U.S. and international patent applications. United Patent Research (originally known as United Patent Resources) offers a range of patent protection services customizable to the client’s requirements.
Once the invention has attained patent pending status, United Patent Research (originally known as United Patent Resources) refers the invention to Universal Licensing, LLC and presents the idea to relevant manufacturers and industry groups. United Patent Research (originally known as United Patent Resources) has forged relationships with many manufacturers and regularly attends trade shows on behalf of its clients.
After a potential manufacturer has been found, United Patent Research (originally known as United Patent Resources) employs the services of its licensing affiliate, Universal Licensing, LCC, in order to secure the best possible terms for the client. Universal Licensing has licensed more than 100 products and is paid on a contingency basis, with no upfront fees for inventors working with United Patent Research (originally known as United Patent Resources).
United Patent Research (originally known as United Patent Resources) is a member of multiple industry associations, including the Association for Manufacturing Excellence and the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering. Through industry best practices and its comprehensive suite of idea development services, United Patent Research has assisted many inventors in advancing their ideas.
Criteria Determining Whether an Invention is Marketable
As President of United Patent Research, LTD (UPR), I assist inventors in all aspects of refining their patent ideas, including crafting patents, compiling and submitting all application materials, and arranging production through licensing specialists. I go over a few simple criteria with inventors in the consultation stage, determining whether the invention has the attributes of a highly successful product. These include patentability, simplicity, ease-of-use, potential market, and the possibility of repeat and add-on sales.
If these criteria or met, the next step is to apply for the patent and, with that patent application in place, seek out manufacturing licensing agreements. While many inventors think at first that they would like to manufacture the item themselves, the cost doing this at scale, and with proper distribution channels, is prohibitive to all but the most dedicated and well-funded. It generally makes sense to license your invention to a large, experienced manufacturer that can ensure a proper scale of production and distribution to meet market demands. This helps your profits grow from the start, ensuring immediate cash flow, and provides the means to continue long-term revenue generating streams.
At UPR, I offer a two-step process that takes the inventor through the complex steps necessary to see a novel idea to market. I work with clients personally to craft patent applications with all associated drawings and documentation, in order to get through the USPTO review process in a proper manner. Patents are often simultaneously applied for on behalf of the inventor in the European Union and China.
Once the application is filed, I work with the licensing company Universal Licensing (UL), which has licensed over 100 products, to negotiate deals with large scale manufacturers. This system offers several benefits to the inventor. Because UPR does not own its own licensing company, UPR spends a sigificant amount of money securing the services of an established licensing company, Universal Licensing. Universal Licensing works on a contigency basis with licensors(UPR Clients), earning them substantiated profits when deals are made. This translates into a real effort on the back-end in securing lucrative licensing deals at the best possible terms for the inventor. If you would like to know more about the services I offer at UPR, please visit the company website at www.protectaproduct.net, www.unitedpatentresearch.net .
