About Tomas Rosicky


Tomas Rosicky, popularly known as “The Little Mozrart”, is a Czech football player, born on October 4, 1980 in Prague. Tomas Rosicky made his international debut, when he was part of two matches in the U-21 Czech Republic national football team in 1999. Later in 2000, he caught the attention of the football world, when he played for the Czech national team against the Republic of Ireland in 2000. He further went on to represent his country at the UEFA European Football Championship (EURO) in 2002 and 2004, thereby helped his team qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Tomas Rosicky made two crucial goals in the World Cup finals for a 3-0 victory over the United States. Owing to his immense potential as a midfielder, in the beginning of the 2006-07 season, he was made captain of the Czech Republic national team. He has successfully led the team to qualify for the EURO 2008 and has already amassed more than 50 international caps.

Tomas Rosicky played for Sparta Prague, one of the most successful clubs in the Czech Republic, in his youth. During his tenure in this club, he picked up Gambrinus Liga winners' medals in 1999 and 2000. He stayed with the club till 2001 during which he made 41 appearances scoring 16 goals. In 2001, Tomas Rosicky signed a contract for five and a half years with Borussia Dortmund, a German Football club for a whopping £13.3 million. He assisted the team to win the coveted Bundesliga ’02 – Germany's highest football league in 2001 and has played a total of 149 games scoring 29 goals.


Later in 2005, Tomas Rosicky was the runner up in the Czech Republic’s ‘Player of the Year’ award. In May 2006, he was signed up for Arsenal at number 7 as midfielder. Tomas Rosicky made his debut for Arsenal against Dinamo Zagreb, in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League 3rd qualifying round. In October that year, he went on to become one of the 30 nominees for the ‘FIFA World Player of the Year’ award. Tomas Rosicky held the 2007 Emirates Cup along with his team members and also played a crucial game in the 2007 Amsterdam Tournament, held at Amsterdam Arena.


Tomas Rosicky, a fan of the movie Legally Blonde, has a penchant for music and enjoys listening to Natalie Imbruglia and Toni Braxton. He looks up to Czech football legends, Zdenek Nehoda and Antonin Puc from whom he draws a lot of inspiration.


As of August 2008, Tomas Rosicky has made a total of 44 appearances for Arsenal including 9 crucial goals.
