The Shade Store is proud to use only the highest quality and most eco-friendly materials available, and each of the company's custom-made window treatments is manufactured within the United States.

The Shade Store possesses a long history and a reputation for excellence that only time and experience can provide. The same family line that would come to open The Shade Store established its first retail textile business in 1946. Two brothers, Jack and Milton Goldstein, opened a store by the name of Westchester Fabrics, where they sold fabrics by the yard and offered custom window treatments. The New York Times recognized the business for its quality products and service beginning in 1981, and the store was often featured in the newspaper's various articles and interviews.

In 1996, the family established Home Works, a custom window treatment shop in Westchester, New York. The Shade Store was founded in 2005 by four grandsons of Milton Goldstein. The third generation of a family line firmly rooted in the fabric and window treatment business, the founders made it their mission to offer customers the highest level of expertise, quality, and service. 

In 2006, The Shade Store developed its first production facility and began research into eco-friendly alternatives, and from 2007 to 2009, The Shade Store celebrated the successful launch of its website and catalog, opened showrooms in New York and California, and began new partnerships with Chilewich, DwellStudio, and Robert Allen.
