Theo Walcott, young and talented English football player, plays at the winger and striker position. He was born to Don and Lynn Walcott on March 16, 1989 in Stanmore, London, England. A great nephew of West Indian batsman Clyde Walcott, Theo Walcott had a passion only for football. He grew up in Compton, a small village near Newbury, and went to The Downs School for secondary education.
Theo Walcott played as a substitute in the second half of the game for the England B team against Belarus, on May 25, 2006. Though he did not play for England in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, he was chosen to be in the squad among established top English goal scorers. Being the youngest player in the England Under-21 team, Theo Walcott scored the first goal against Moldova where the match ended in a draw (2-2) on August 15, 2006 at Ipswich Town’s ground Portman Road. On October 10, 2006, his two brilliant goals in the playoff second leg of the match against Germany, qualified England to the Under-21 European Championships. He participated in the match, where England won the powerful Switzerland team (3-2) in the under 21 category. Another impressive performance of Theo Walcott was witnessed on February 5, 2008, when he scored his 5th goal for England Under-21, against the Republic of Ireland.
He was the youngest player (only 17 years) while he played for England against Hungary in a friendly match at Old Trafford. On June 1, 2008, Theo Walcott represented England as a substitute in the second leg of another friendly match against Trinidad and Tobago.
He scored more than 100 goals for Association Football Club (AFC) Newbury, based in Berkshire, which was his only season for Newbury and is aptly nicknamed “The Newbury Express”. He played for Swindon Town, Southampton FC before moving to the Arsenal FC, in 2006.
Theo Walcott represented the Southampton FC, first team and was the youngest player to do so. His first senior team debut was on October 18, 2005, where he scored his first goal at Leeds United. His impressive form and outstanding performances were witnessed at Millwall and Stoke City where he scored goals for Southampton.
Theo Walcott was signed for the Arsenal FC, one of the league’s prestigious top senior clubs, on January 20, 2006. Despite the young striker scoring for Arsenal reserves on his debut match against Portsmouth reserves at Havant, Arsenal lost the match 3-2. His style of play is often compared with that of Thierry Henry, former Arsenal team player, and would be wearing the number 14 shirt which was earlier worn by Thierry Henry (formally announced on June 28, 2008).
Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler are his favorite football players. Theo Walcott is a big fan of Liverpool FC and when Liverpool won the Champions League in 2004-2005, he shouted mad with joy.
Theo Walcott was only 14 when he agreed to sign a sponsorship deal with Nike. He is the proud recipient of the ‘BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year’ award on December, 2005.
Theo Walcott was one of the torchbearers for the Olympic flame parade in London, on April 6, 2008.
