Theo Tran is a professional poker player. He was born in 1982 in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Theo Tran has been playing poker since he was 13 years old. He used to play poker with friends betting baseball cards, quarters and dimes instead of money. Theo Tran played poker with boys who were several years older than him and they often took his allowance money. When he became older he decided to play poker more seriously, moreover, his decision was inspired by the movie “Rounders”.
When Theo Tran was at college he often organized poker games at his hostel room beginning at 7 p.m. and ending till 7 a.m. He played really well and won a lot of money. After he had been encouraged by his room mate that he was very good at No Limit Hold’em games, Theo Tran left the college for one year and became a professional poker player. But unfortunately, his plan failed down as he return in Atlantic City by his family. His mother forced him to return at the university and to finish his last year there. Going back in Pittsburgh Theo Tran and his friends began to play poker in the biggest underground games available, where he had great success. After that Theo Tran didn’t have much luck and he had ended up broke several times. So poker never really helped him to finance his education.
After finishing college and taking a degree in Communication, Psychology, Theo Tran began to look for a job. He was invited for an interview for the position ADP along with 18 other people, but he didn’t get the job. That made him angry and he decided to move in Las Vegas to make a career as a professional poker player. The first appearance of Theo Tran on a tournament was on January 24, 2006 at the LA Poker Classic / WPT Event Season 4 Event #6 - No Limit Hold'em. At the very first participation he finished 1st and won a check for $132.793. Theo Tran also took part in tournaments such as 2006 WSOP Tournament Circuit- Caesars No-Limit Hold'em, 2006 Vegas Open (NPL) No-Limit Hold'em @ 12pm, 2006 37th Annual World Series of Poker, 2006 California State Poker Championship No-limit Hold'em.
2007 is one of his most successful years. On January 30th Theo Tran participated in the 2007 L.A. Poker Classic (WPT) No-Limit Hold'em Event 6 where he finished in 1st place and took a prize for $113,300. On July 4th he placed 2nd in the 2007 38th Annual World Series of Poker Event 52 - No-Limit Hold'em and became richer with $ 387,193. In 2008 his most remarkable tournament is 2008 39th Annual World Series of Poker: Event 2 - No-Limit Hold'em, Event 7 - No-Limit Hold'em, Event 13 - No-Limit Hold'em, Event 25 - World Championship Heads Up No-Limit Hold'em and Event 39 - No-Limit Hold'em. His total winnings at the 2008 39th Annual World Series of Poker exceed $553.138.
Now Theo Tran resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He plays often poker online - his nickname there is “Pitt Rounders”. When he is not playing poker he likes to go clubbing, partying, and drinking with friends. His total live tournament winnings exceed $1,720,000.
