About The New York School of Court Reporting and Career Institute

The New York School of Court Reporting and Career Institute - Summary:

The New York School of Court Reporting offers full- and part-time coursework for students interested in learning court reporting and transcription skills. Currently, the New York School of Court Reporting has a job-placement rate of 100 percent for its graduates. This success rate is largely attributable to the high demand for court reporting services. In addition to full-time employment with a court system, graduates of the school are qualified to provide closed captioning for television and depositions for attorneys and congressional hearings.

While there is no set schedule for completing coursework at the New York School of Court Reporting, most students aim to graduate within two years. Some complete the program in as little as one year and others take longer, depending on their professional and personal commitments. Regardless of their speed of completion, though, students at the school receive an education that enables them to learn both the skills and courtroom procedures that professional court reporters must master.

The coursework included in the curriculum of the school ranges from introductory classes (including Machine Shorthand Theory) to practical courses in transcription and machine shorthand. The court reporting curriculum also includes a review of written English conventions and a survey of medical and legal terminology likely to arise during criminal or civil trials.

The faculty members who teach at the school all have professional court reporting experience. The school’s director, Stuart M. Auslander, has held the position of Senior Court Reporter, Supreme Court, Criminal and Civil Divisions in Westchester County since 1983. The faculty is sincerely dedicated to helping each student reach his or her goals as quickly as possible.

Students interested in learning more about a career in court reporting or enrolling in classes at the school can visit the open house that the school holds prior to the beginning of each semester.
