About Tejashwi Yadav


Tejashwi Yadav, an Indian cricketer, was born on November 9, 1989 in Patna, Bihar. He is the son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, the Minister of Railways in the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and the president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and his wife Rabri Devi, the former Chief Minister of Bihar and has an elder brother and seven sisters. Tejashwi Yadav went to the Delhi Public School (DPS) and went on to represent the DPS in inter-school cricket and also took part in some school level tournaments in England and the United States of America. .


In 2003, Tejashwi Yadav was a part of the U.K. Cricket World team, which made a striking performance during the team’s tour to the United States at the invitation of Midwest Cricket Conference of Chicago. In the third match of the tournament, he scored an unbeaten 25 and helped the UK Cricket World team score a total of 157 for 8 in 30 overs. Tejashwi Yadav also exhibited good bowling skills by taking two wickets and helped the team restrict MCC Bookes XI, the opponent team, to 155 for 9 in 30 overs. He continued his good bowling form in the fifth match against MCC Invitation XI, when he took five wickets for twenty four runs and contributed to the team’s second victory at the tournament. In the team’s final match at the tournament, which was against MCC Vampire XI, Tejashwi Yadav once again displayed his bowling skills, claiming two wickets and helped the team to end the tour victorious.


On August 29, 2003 Tejashwi Yadav received the Khel Kirti Samman award from Rabri Devi at the magnificent stage of the Srikrishna Memorial Hall and became the youngest recipient of the state's top sports award, given by the state's Art, Culture and Youth Ministry. He proved his generosity by donating Rs. 51,000 prize money he received, to the Chief Minister’s fund, which helps the poor sportspersons.


Tejashwi Yadav captained the Delhi Under-15 team, following the omission of Anshul Gupta at the Polly Umrigar Trophy, which was held in October 2004. In January 2007, he scored a vital 125 runs in a match against the Bengal team at the Under-17 Vijay Merchant Trophy cricket tournament and helped the Delhi team qualify for the semifinals. Tejashwi Yadav was also one of the Under-19 Indian cricket team to play at the World Cup in Malaysia. He was bought by the Delhi Daredevils team and was named among the 21 players to play at the 2008 Indian Premier League (IPL).


Though Tejashwi Yadav is passionate about cricket, he has shown interest in other sports by representing Bihar in the under-12 K D Singh Babu Hockey tournament in Lucknow and under-15 throw ball championship at Bangalore.


In the near future, Tejashwi Yadav aspires to represent the Indian cricket team as an all-rounder.
