About Tammy Williams

Tammy Williams - Professional Summary:

As Dean of Academics at the American Hebrew Academy in Greensboro, North Carolina, Tammy Williams maintains the school’s standards of excellence through her development of curriculum and her supervision of students, faculty, and staff. Williams’s substantial duties include maintaining accurate and confidential records for students and faculty, ensuring timely student progress reporting, overseeing the school’s academic budget, and ensuring the school’s adherence to state and federal education regulations. During her tenure as Dean, Tammy Williams has instituted two innovations in the science programs at the Academy: the sequence of science coursework to begin with physics first for 9th graders (to allow for concrete exploration of science concepts), followed by chemistry for 10th graders and biology for 11th graders, and an advanced science internship course in partnership with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In addition to her role as Dean, Tammy Williams is a founding faculty member of the American Hebrew Academy, having taught Advanced Placement Biology there since the school opened its doors in September 2001.

Earning the degree of BS in Science Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985, Tammy Williams earned her Master of Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1987. Williams earned her Doctor of Education in 1997, after successfully defending her doctoral dissertation, Effects of an Intensive Middle Grades Science Experience on the Career-Goal Orientation, Self-Esteem, Academic Achievement, and Interest in Science for Eighth Grade Females.

Her paper, Regulation of Ecdysone Biosynthesis in the Tobacco Hornworm Manduca Sexta, appeared in the Journal of Experimental Biology in 1987. In 1995 and 1996, Williams authored four science activity books for students in grades six through eight. Tammy Williams possesses professional certification from the State of North Carolina and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
