Tamir Cohen is an international football player who was born on March 4, 1984 in Israel and is the father of a former Liverpool player Avi Cohen and he is the chairman of the Israel Professional Footballers Association.
Tamir Cohen represents the Israel football team at the international arena and made his debut for Israel national under-21 football team against Cyprus. He has made seven appearances for this team, and on October 13, 2007 he played for the Israel national football team in a match against Croatia.
Tamir Cohen started his professional football career at Maccabi Tel Aviv, the club where his father also played. He began playing for the club’s youth team and in 2002 he started playing for the senior team. He made his debut for the club in November 2002 against Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv in Ligat ha'Al. Tamir Cohen came in as the substitute and the team went on to win the match with a 1-0 lead. He scored his first goal in the Toto Cup against Maccabi Petah Tikva and this goal was a match-winning one.
On January 1, 2007, Tamir Cohen signed to play for Maccabi Netanya and continued there for a year. After his contract with Maccabi Netanya concluded, Bolton Wanderers signed him into their club as a midfielder for a transfer fee of £ 650,000 and gave him squad number 25. Tamir Cohen played his first game for the club in the FA Cup against Sheffield United. On March 2, 2008, he scored his first goal in the English Premier League, after which he scored a consolation goal against Liverpool at the Reebok stadium.
