About Tagged, CA
Tagged.com founders Greg Tseng and Johann Schleier-Smith graduated from Harvard University and cultivated years of experience in online business before establishing Tagged in 2004. The following year, investment firm Mayfield Fund granted Tagged $7 million in capital, allowing Tagged to expand its user base and application features rapidly. Tagged is based in San Francisco.
Tagged allows people to associate with one another through mutual interests; members can indicate to others when they have similar hobbies and passions through “Tagging” items listed on any other user’s profile. The other user then has the choice to accept or decline the “Tag,” creating the possibility of a connection between members throughout the world.
In addition to the unique “Tagging” feature, Tagged allows members to customize their profiles through the use of skins, colors, background images, and fonts. Tagged also provides chat rooms, games, and photo sharing, as well as third-party widgets, like YouTube video posting and Meebo instant messaging, that allow users to interact with each other in real time.
Tagged receives an average of 7 billion page views per month with 4 million active daily users. With members throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and many other countries, Tagged currently hosts more than 80 million users. Recently, Tagged excited its large international user base by translating the site into five foreign languages: Dutch, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. Such a feat involved months of work from the company’s engineers, designers, customer service professionals, and others, and Tagged is still hard at work to increase the number of available languages in 2010.
