In 2008, Suzanne Rich Folsom was asked to join the American International Group, Inc. (AIG), in the midst of the financial crisis, to establish a world-class regulatory and compliance program to mitigate risk for the company. In partnership with AIG's business units around the world, Suzanne Rich Folsom worked to achieve alignment between regulatory priorities and strategic business goals as well as ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and the code of conduct and standards of good business throughout AIG's thousands of businesses and subsidiaries in more than 130 countries. Her efforts helped to stabilize the company and regulators around the globe recognized these achievements. Suzanne Rich Folsom graduated from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, with an undergraduate degree in political science. She went on to graduate cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center. Suzanne Rich Folsom's commitment to the greater community through advocacy, expertise, and dedication began during her university years. Suzanne Rich Folsom was selected to participate in a number of prestigious programs, including serving as a White House Intern, Congressional Intern, Maryland Senate Page, and National Institutes of Health Intern. Her grassroots involvement also included representing victims of domestic violence in the legal process, volunteering at women's shelters and manning the crisis hotline, and participating in university leadership roles in the area of ethics, professional responsibility, student health, and international issues. Suzanne Rich Folsom has continued her civic stewardship throughout her career, serving in leadership roles on a number of boards and committees for organizations whose missions she supports, including the Board of Visitors of Duke University's Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy, the Corporate Board of Directors of the Bermuda Biological Station for Research, the Medical Jurisprudence Committee of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the Board of Directors of SOS Children's Villages-USA, and the Board of Directors of the National Assembly of National Voluntary Health and Social Welfare Organizations. Suzanne Rich Folsom has also served as a Delegate on numerous Presidential and State Department delegations, promoting democracy and providing humanitarian relief in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The professional accomplishments of Suzanne Rich Folsom span more than two decades around the globe. She served as the Private Secretary to Queen Noor in Amman, Jordan, where she played a key role in matters ranging from access to water and desalinization issues, refugee and resettlement camp challenges, preservation of Jordan's historic sites, Bedouin tribal issues, domestic food shortages, and international fundraising issues. Suzanne Rich Folsom also acted as an Advisor to the US Delegation at the 1985 UN Decade for Women Conference in Nairobi, Kenya, and as an Advisor to the Chair of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, which was responsible for the follow-up work on the rights of women globally. She was recruited by James D. Wolfensohn, President of the World Bank Group, to serve as his Counselor in 2003, and then took on the challenge of directing the World Bank's Department of Institutional Integrity, the division responsible for the Bank's anti-corruption efforts in 185 countries. Under Suzanne Rich Folsom's leadership, the anti-corruption and compliance policy initiatives were strengthened, instances of transnational fraud and corruption were aggressively pursued, and the issue of the importance of combating corruption was elevated to a new level at the World Bank. Suzanne Rich Folsom has spent her career focusing on good governance and the intersection of ethics, policy, regulations, politics, communications, diplomacy, and good government.
