The Smile Train focuses solely on the repair of cleft lip and cleft palate in children who live in underdeveloped nations. Considered one of the most productive “dollar for deed” charities today, The Smile Train uses the donations of individuals like Suzanne Farrell to fund surgeries that improve children’s ability to talk, eat, and smile. The Smile Train has the lowest cost per surgery of any cleft charity, and it empowers each country's local medical staff to learn how to perform this life-changing procedure. Suzanne Farrell resides in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in the town of Wellfleet, known worldwide for its oysters. Concerned with the health of the ecosystems and marine life along the northeastern coast, Suzanne Farrell donates time and funds to several nonprofit organizations that work for conservation in the area. Contributing needed funds to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, (IFAW), Suzanne Farrell also supports IFAW’s Cape Cod Stranding Network, whose 300 volunteers regularly assist stranded marine animals on the Cape Cod peninsula. Suzanne Farrell hopes to volunteer with the organization after completing a Stranded Marine Mammal Response Team Training session. An avid book lover, Suzanne Farrell enjoys works by Elin Hilderbrand, who writes popular fiction set in the coastal Massachusetts area; Jeanette Walls, author of The Glass Castle; and Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler. She also takes pleasure in cooking and gardening and plans to take a class on canning to preserve her fruits and vegetables. Suzanne Farrell likes hiking with her Bernese mountain dog, and she and her dog visit with the residents of Epoch Senior Living in Harwich, Massachusetts, providing seniors with pet therapy. Suzanne Farrell supports the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), as well as the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. She attended Concordia College in New York, where she received a liberal arts degree.
