About Sunil Joshi

Sunil Joshi is an Indian cricketer, who was born on June 6, 1970 in Gadag, Karnataka. An all-rounder, he bats left-handed and bowls slow left arm spin. Right from his childhood, he was passionate about cricket, and that made him travel forty miles to Hubli for practice and come back to Gadag in time for school. Sunil Joshi idolises, Anil Kumble, an Indian bowler, for his humility and hard work.

Sunil Joshi made his mark at the international level primarily as a secondary spin bowler to Anil Kumble, and also as someone who could contribute runs from the lower order. He made his first international appearance in a test match against England played between June 6 and June 9, 1996 in Birmingham. In his test career spanning 15 matches, he scored 352 runs, his highest being 92.

Sunil Joshi made his debut in the One Day International (ODI) on September 1, 1996 in a match against Zimbabwe in Colombo. His most memorable bowling performance in his ODI career came in the match against South Africa during 1999-2000, at the LG Cup in Nairobi. He took five wickets, bowling six maiden overs and conceding only six runs in his ten-over spell. His fantastic bowling not only helped India win that match but also, made it to the Wisden 100 three years later as the seventh best ODI bowling performance to that date. His highest batting score in the shorter version of the game is an unbeaten 61, scored in a match against New Zealand in Guwahati, India. Sunil Joshi has made 41 and 69 dismissals in test and ODI career, respectively.

On April 3, 2007, Sunil Joshi played his first Twenty20 match against Kerala team in Visakhapatnam and went on to play a total of ten Twenty20 matches at different levels. He was brought into the Bangalore Royal Challengers team for an amount of $50,000 by its owner Vijay Mallya and played four matches, taking a wicket, at the 2008 Indian Premier League (IPL). This Karnataka Ranji player made his appearance for the Bangalore Royal Challengers, in a match against Delhi Daredevils in Delhi on April 30, 2008. Sunil Joshi has represented teams like Bedfordshire.

Besides being a cricketer, Sunil Joshi is also a manager with the Canara Bank in Bangalore. He loves Bangalore for its weather and prefers eating at Taj West End there. He likes listening to songs sung by Kishore Kumar, a former Indian playback singer and actor, and he regards Kabhi Kabhi as his favourite movie. His favourite cricketer is Vivian Richards and he picks out Pete Sampras as his non-cricketing idol. When not playing cricket, Sunil Joshi plays golf and likes to watch different sports.
