Steve Simonsen is a professional goalkeeper, who was born on April 3, 1979 in South Shields, England.

Steve Simonsen began his professional football career as a trainee with Tranmere Rovers in August 1996. A couple of months later, he made his league debut for this club in its match against Stoke City. In September 1998, he was signed by Everton, an English Premier League club, for a record breaking £3.3 million after making 42 first-team appearances for Tranmere Rovers. During this time, Steve Simonsen was considered to be as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the country. He made his debut for this club in a League Cup tie against Oxford United during the 1999-2000 season. During the 2001-2002 season, he was a regular in the side and made 25 League starts for this club.
In July 2004, Steve Simonsen moved to Stoke City on a free transfer. For his impressive performances in the first season, he was awarded with Stoke City player's player of the season (2004-2005). Following this, he was rewarded with a new-three year contract that keeps him in the club until July 2008.
During the 2006-2007 season, Steve Simonsen continued his good form and held the record for most consecutive clean sheets at Stoke City, which includes four home matches against Coventry City, West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City and Queens Park Rangers, and three away games against Crystal Palace, Hull City and Coventry City.
On July 31, 2007, Steve Simonsen extended his tenure at the club by signing a new contract that keeps him in the club until June 2010. On the opening day of the 2007-2008 season, he helped his team to a 1–0 victory over the Cardiff City F.C. with a string of saves that includes a penalty save from Steven MacLean. As of 2008, Steve Simonsen has made a total of 150 league appearances for this club as a first-choice goal keeper.
