Steven Guynn - Professional Summary:
In the area of pro bono service, international capital markets attorney Steven Guynn has gone above and beyond the call of duty. He has advised on transactions totaling $150 billion during his career. Previously, as a Partner and practice leader at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in New York, Steven Guynn donated his expertise to the Alliance for Sensible Airspace Planning (AfSAP), a coalition of 13 municipalities, elected officials, and citizens. The group opposed a plan by the Federal Aviation Administration to redesign air space by decreasing the distance required between planes throughout holding patterns and approaches and lowering the floors for landing and takeoff. AfSAP believed the changes would increase noise and pollution levels in the areas surrounding certain New York, Westchester, and Newark airports.
Steven Guynn formed AfSAP Management Companies I and II, obtaining non-profit status for the entities from the Internal Revenue Service. As legal challenges and lobbying efforts continued, he prepared significant legal arguments on National Environmental Protection Agency clean-air violations and the increase of growth capacity. Playing a leadership role among the organization’s 12 petitioners, Steven Guynn testified before various public hearings in Fairfield County, Connecticut. In addition, he assisted with the lawsuit of the State of Connecticut and assisted in preparing a joint brief for the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C.
In his paid efforts, the international transactional attorney handles joint ventures, restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, private-equity investments, and a variety of other transactions for wealth funds, financial advisors, and corporations. Mr. Guynn completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University, graduating as valedictorian with a B.A. in English. At the University of Virginia, he worked on the Virginia Law Review while earning a Juris Doctor. Steven Guynn began his career in global capital markets as a Partner, Advisory Committee member, and practice leader in the London and New York offices of Jones Day.
