About Steve Edison
Steve Edison - Professional Summary:
Steve Edison, founder of the Abolition News Network in St. Louis, Missouri, leads the nonprofit in the making of historical DVDs about slavery. In the format of a late-night talk show, actors portraying historical figures discuss, in their own words, their experiences during the abolition period. Steve Edison's project is an objective account of that time, relying only on the historical dialogue of the characters. The DVDs also address topics not commonly taught in schools, such as slavery in the North, not just the South. Steve Edison established the Abolition News Network in 2006 on the 150th anniversary of the Dred Scott decision. A teacher’s guide that includes glossaries and discussion questions accompanies the seven-DVD set.
Prior to his work with the Abolition News Network, Steve Edison was President of the International Folklore Federation of Greater St. Louis. This nonprofit group educates local residents on the cultural make-up of their city in an entertaining and enriching way. Toward the end of his tenure with this organization, Steve Edison worked on a re-enactment of the 1904 World’s Fair, to celebrate its anniversary. Steve Edison is also a member of the The Abraham Lincoln Association, which promotes scholarship and research on the 16th American president and publishes a quarterly journal.
Steve Edison graduated from Antioch College in 1960 with a Bachelor's degree in literature. After college, he served in the Army for two years in a battalion office position. Steve Edison worked in his family retail business following his military service for 25 years, before operating his own retail business for five years.
