About Stephen S Solomon
Throughout his career as an Optometrist, optometry researcher, and Firefighter, Dr. Stephen S. Solomon has given talks and presentations at many seminars and lectures. During the 1990s, Dr. Stephen S. Solomon spread his expertise in the area of fire safety by creating 10 closed circuit videos for remote learning.
As a Consultant for cases involving vision and visual perception, Dr. Stephen S. Solomon has lent his expertise in the field to attorneys in a number of legal settings. In 2000 and 2001, Dr. Stephen S. Solomon gave presentations at Lawyers & Judges Publishing’s Human Factors Symposium and the L & J Accident Reconstruction and Litigation Seminar. Dr. Stephen S. Solomon has also provided depositions and court testimony as an expert witness.
Dr. Stephen S. Solomon also possesses considerable experience in the field of emergency vehicle safety and has given many talks and presentations on the subject. In 1997, Dr. Stephen S. Solomon presented his study titled “Influence of Color on Fire Vehicle Accidents” at the National Academy of Science - Transportation Research Board’s annual meeting. The study found, contrary to popular belief, that pumpers and ladder trucks painted red and white are significantly more likely to be involved in an accident than fire vehicles painted lime yellow and white.
In 2002, Dr. Stephen S. Solomon lectured the National Academy of Science’s Transportation Research Board on the importance of safe parking on road shoulders for emergency vehicles. Later that year, Dr. Stephen S. Solomon spoke with Arizona’s Highway Patrol Division about emergency response, lights, sirens, and parking concerns. In a 2006 summit of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs, Dr. Stephen S. Solomon gave a presentation on the safety operations of emergency vehicles. More recently, Dr. Stephen S. Solomon lectured about motorist vision during a meeting of the New York State Society of Opticians, Inc. (NYSSO).
