Stephen Smith - Professional Experience:
2000-Present:
Recycling Participation Officer, implementing strategies and policies. Conducting presentations and road shows and liaising with outside agencies and contractors to increase recycling participation to meet and exceed set targets throughout the borough of 90,000 properties and in excess of 300 flats, multi-occupancy properties and residential homes. All utilising a range of skills including planning, flexibility, problem solving, working to set budgets and timescales and focusing on excellent customer care.
Supervisor (secondment), delegating crews to a fleet of 20 refuse and recycling vehicles and ensuring the smooth running, efficiency and delivery of the day to day service.
Chargehand/Driver of a refuse collection vehicle, responsible for the safety of the crew, the vehicle and the smooth delivery of the service.
Senior Health & Safety Representative, responsible for the health, safety and welfare of over a 100 members of staff within EM and ensuring safe systems of work and procedures are adhered to by delivering regular safety presentations, toolbox talks and carrying out regular safety inspections.
1998-2000 - HGV Class 1 driver for Corby Chilled Distribution, Green Lane, Heywood.
Responsible for timed deliveries of fresh produce to major Blue Chip companies.
1996-1998 - HGV Class 1&2 driver for Holroyd Meek Distribution, Salmon Fields, Royton. Promoted to driver trainer, training new drivers on their roles and responsibilities to ensure a professional service delivery of fresh produce and frozen foods to fast food and major pub chains.
1985-1996 - British Army – Royal Engineers.
11 years service culminating as a Plant Instructor at the Royal School of Military Engineering, Chatham, instructing students to City & Guilds level. In charge of various plant projects, as a Section Commander, worldwide. All completed in set timescales and budgets.
