About Sonya Melton
Sonya Melton is an established business professional with a strong background in sales and marketing, and she currently serves as a member of the online faculty at Apollo Group, Inc. Her classes, which cover subjects such as HR management, supervision and leadership, and organizational theory, are shaped by her significant experience in the management field. In 2008, Melton both completed the Management and Leadership in Education course at Harvard University and earned her PhD in Organizational Management with a specialization in Leadership from Capella University.
Sonya Melton’s studies and applied experience contributed directly to her success at Allen University, where she served led Enrollment Management and streamlined the School for Professional Adults, Office of the Registrar, and Office of Admissions. Prior to her achievements at Allen University, Melton saw success as Senior Community Sales Director with Atria Senior Living Group - Buckhead, increasing occupancy at the facility by 135% in one calendar year.
Sonya Melton’s long list of accomplishments has resulted in invitations to give presentations and consultations at a number of events. In 2009, Melton participated as a Workshop Speaker at the South Carolina Department of Education Office of Youth Services on the subject of “Access to Higher Education.” Melton also contracts with the international independent consulting firm Gerson Lehrman Group, Inc.
As part of her commitment to community service, Sonya Melton continues to help spearhead and set up fundraisers for local high schools and has raised money for Rotary International. Melton has also worked with Open Hand, an Atlanta-based community organization that provides food and dietary education to patients with nutrition-sensitive chronic diseases and has helped area elementary school children with mathematics homework. Some of Melton’s hobbies include snorkeling, sailing, jet skiing, and parasailing. Due to her love of travel, Sonya Melton plans to take trips to Jamaica and around the Mediterranean Sea.
