Sir Chris is undoubtedly the UK’s and Europe’s highest profile and leading biotechnology entrepreneur.  He has created over 50 successful science companies from scratch in the UK and Europe worth over $5billion.  He has successfully floated 20 new companies on stock markets around the world, a feat not matched by many other international entrepreneurs.

 

His businesses have employed over 3500 people, mostly scientists, spending over $300million each year with life sciences suppliers and with an annual salary base in excess of $200million.  He built Chiroscience plc (UK’s flagship biotech. company) with many of his own scientific ideas from scratch with £1.5million in 1992 to over £1billion by 1997 returning huge amounts of cash at over 240% IRR to his original backers (Apax, Schroders, 3i etc) as well as to Sir C himself.  He built Merlin Biosciences in just six years to over $500million investment funds under management into one of the largest European focused biomedical venture capital firms ever: it is now renamed Excalibur Group and he intends to extend its reach into the Middle East and Africa by 2012.

 

He is currently developing over 200 new and exciting 21^st century medical projects with 80 innovative medicines in advanced human clinical trials in tens of thousands of patients in various countries around the world for a range of diseases.  Many of these revolutionary new medicines in development are for serious diseases such as cancer, arthritis, obesity, Parkinsons, stroke, diabetes, vaccines, infections, cardiovascular, pain,  arthrosclerosis, dermatology, urology, asthma etc etc.

 

He has raised many $100’s millions of investment from around the world from around the world for mainly British medical research projects saving many thousands of lives each year.  His companies have developed and launched a diversity of interesting new products and treatments such as the world’s first premature infant lung surfactant; one of the safest anaesthetic epidurals; an ultra pure anti-inflammatory; a range of leading dermatology instruments; diabetic leg ulcer device; a range of cancer and HIV diagnostic tests and bioluminescent germ testing kits, all selling over $500millions pa.

 

He created Britain’s first quoted and truly profitable bioscience company, Celsis International plc, with sales over $50million pa and which has now sold over 200 million rapid microbial tests many of which originally invented and patented by Sir C himself.  He has built many new high-tech manufacturing plants for a range of new chemicals, enzymes, diagnostics, cell therapeutics, gene medicines, stem cells, pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

 

As a ‘hobby commercial activity’ he created Britain’s biggest independent vehicle security company, Toad plc, with $50million sales and which fitted out over 6 million British cars with its range of innovative products.  He is also in the process of building Britain’s leading outdoor educational bushcraft company.
