Shelton Martis is a professional football player and was born on November 29, 1982 in Willemstad, Netherlands Antilles.


He has won one cap for Netherlands Antilles at the international level, as of 2008.


He started his professional football career in 2002 with the Rotterdam-based professional football club SBV Excelsior. During his tenure, which ended in 2004, he made twenty two appearances, following which he joined another Dutch club Football Club Eindhoven and played thirty two games for it during the 2004-2005 season. In 2005, Shelton Martis made a move to English League Two, joining Darlington and impressed everyone with his ability to defend well and even won the club’s Player of the Year award. He featured in forty two games for the club that season and scored two goals to his credit.


The following season, Shelton Martis joined the Hibernian football club in August 2006 after signing a three-year contract, and he played twenty seven games for it in a single season. In July 2007, this defender signed a two-year contract with the West Bromwich Albion for a transfer fee of £50,000 and was given the jersey number 24. Shelton Martis made his first appearance for this club on September 25, 2007 in a League Cup match against Cardiff City. His league debut happened on December 8, 2007 against Leicester City, and he helped his team win the match 2-1. In January 2008, Shelton Martis was sent to Scunthorpe on a one-month loan deal in order to gain Championship experience and has played three games for Scunthorpe as of January 2008.
