About Shannon Olexa
Shannon Olexa is a professionally trained independent gold refiner, specializing in the crafting and design of precious metals for his family’s company in New York City, Olexa Refining.
Shannon Olexa was educated at Rhode Island University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. From there, Shannon Olexa worked toward a Master of Science degree in biology. Shannon Olexa also holds a certificate in multimedia from New York University.
Olexa Refining buys gold, silver, platinum, and palladium, and sells gold and silver bullion. The company’s state-of-the-art assay laboratory assures the highest yield possible, and also works with placer gold, palladium alloys, karat gold and gold-filled jewelry, and liquids, black sands and sludges containing gold, platinum and palladium.
Shannon Olexa is deeply connected to the generations-old company, which dates back to his great-grandfather’s days. A poet and winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor, Shannon Olexa’s great-grandfather exemplified the hard-working, respectability of gold refinery industry, a standard to which Shannon Olexa has upheld through his work both with Olexa Refining and with varied humanitarian and charitable organizations.
Shannon Olexa is a devoted supporter of Feed the Children. Shannon Olexa traveled to Africa with the organization’s founder, Larry Jones, to visit orphanages. Shannon Olexa is also involved with Guiding Eyes for the Blind, from whom he adopted a retired seeing-eye Golden Labrador Retriever, named Andrew.
Shannon Olexa is also a caregiver for his own family. Shannon Olexa spent years as the primary caregiver for his beloved uncle, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. Shannon Olexa also traveled to Vatican City to see the Pope.
Shannon Olexa’s widely diverse interests include Formula 1 race car driving, piloting, automobile and architectural design, philosophy, science-fiction, and worldwide travel. Shannon Olexa has been to Alaska to tour and study a gold mine; to Italy, for Formula 1 racing and a tour of the Ferrari plant; to France, where Shannon Olexa saw Notre Dame and learned to speak French; to China, where Shannon Olexa walked the Great Wall; to Israel, where Shannon Olexa went on a Kabutz; to London, where Shannon Olexa attended Ascot; and to Monte Carlo.
In addition, Shannon Olexa spent a week on America’s Cup racing sloop and has traveled far and wide to see all of Frank Lloyd Wright’s personal homes.
A true student of life, Shannon Olexa has extremely broad intellectual interests and is accomplished in many areas of both the arts and the sciences.
