Sergio Azevedo Ricardo Rocha, born on October 3, 1978, in Santo Tirso, is a Portuguese football player, who plays in the defending position.
Sergio Azevedo Ricardo Rocha made his debut in the international arena for the Portugal national team in 2002 against Scotland. He returned to play for the team after three years, in the qualifying matches of the Euro 2008 against Finland and Denmark. As of May 2008, he has earned six caps for the national team.
Sergio Azevedo Ricardo Rocha started his football career in 1998 with FC Famalicao, a Portuguese football club, and played in all games for the club in that year. After spending two years at FC Famalicao, he moved to SC Braga, a recurrent qualifier of the United European Football Association (UEFA) Cup. While his stint with the club, he developed to become a skilled defender and participated in 44 matches, scoring twice. By the end of 2001, he signed with the famed SL Benfica, and developed to be a fierce stopper with good marking ability. He spent more than four seasons at the club and scored three times in 162 matches, which included thirty-three games in various European tournaments. Sergio Azevedo Ricardo Rocha shared the honors with his team in lifting the Portuguese Cup in 2003-04. In 2004-05, he was a part of the team that won the Portuguese Liga and the Portuguese Super Cup.
Sergio Azevedo Ricardo Rocha signed with Tottenham Hotspur on January 23, 2007 for a period of three-and-a-half years and an amount speculated to be around £3.3 million. He made his debut for the club on January 27, in a 3-1 victory against Southend in the fourth round of the Football Association (FA) Cup, in which he substituted for the injured captain, Ledley King. In the following month that year, Sergio Azevedo Ricardo Rocha made his Premiership debut for Tottenham against Sheffield United.
