Sedgwick Daniels - Professional Summary:    

 

 

In 2001, the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) named Sedgwick Daniels Jurisdictional Bishop, a role that affords him the highest degree of responsibility within the church. Daniels strives to uphold his credo, "If God can do anything, God can do everything. Nothing is too hard for God." Sedgwick Daniels uses this principle to inform his decisions and help guide those of others.

 

Daniels and his own church, Holy Redeemer COGIC in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, encourage a lifestyle free of alcohol, tobacco, and gambling. In his Sunday sermons, Sedgwick Daniels speaks with conviction about the value of helping others and the need for an individual relationship with God. Daniels' abilities at the helm of a congregation consistently attract honors, among them the Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major Award and a visit from President George W. Bush.

 

A lifelong scholar of Christianity, Sedgwick Daniels has earned five Doctors of Divinity and Humanities. Daniels grew up in a Milwaukee household with seven siblings and drew tremendous inspiration from his mother, who was a social worker, a women's rights advocate, and a nurse during World War II. Sedgwick Daniels continues to honor her legacy through community-oriented projects. In the early 1990s, Daniels and the Holy Redeemer COGIC instituted a number of social service programs designed to produce positive, sustainable change. On a street named after his mother, Sedgwick Daniels introduced arts initiatives, low-cost housing, and educational institutions.

 

Daniels remains committed to his community, most recently launching a $70 million development that will include housing, retail space, a hotel, and a learning technology center. A skilled urban planner, as well as a man of God, Sedgwick Daniels served as a Planning Commissioner for the city of Milwaukee before he entered the ministry. He is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
