About Scott Lazar

Scott Lazar is a professional poker player from the United States of America and was born in 1963. Originally from Woodmere, New York, he currently lives in Studio City, California.

Scott Lazar got acquainted to the deck of cards even before he began playing poker as magic was his first choice of profession, and he has even performed shows for celebrity audiences, earning him the nickname “Magic” in the poker world. While working as a magician, Scott Lazar developed an interest in poker and decided to focus on becoming a professional poker player. His ability to manipulate perception was a result of his training as a magician, which created a sense of discipline in his game.

Though he started out by playing in relatively minor tournaments, some of his achievements are noteworthy. Scott Lazar got his first exposure to international poker tournaments in 2000 at the LA Poker Classic, where he cashed close to $5,000 in two Limit Hold’em events. In his very next tournament, the Winnin' O the Green, Scott Lazar finished as the runner-up in the Limit Hold’em event and walked away with $14,310. On April 30, 2002, he participated in the Mini World Series of Poker and finished ninth in the Limit Hold’em event.

Scott Lazar competed in his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 2004 and managed to make $2,100 in the Limit Hold’em event. The same year he took part in other tournaments like Bayou Poker Challenge and Big Poker Oktober, managing couple of final-table finishes and earned $6,121 in total.

Scott Lazar started 2005 with a decent tenth-place finish at the LA Poker Classic/World Poker Tour Event Season 3 and took home $3,259 in the No-Limit Hold’em event. But the biggest victory of his career, as of 2008, came on July 15, 2005 at the 36th Annual World Series of Poker, where he reached the final table and went on to finish sixth bagging a whopping $1,500,000 in the No-Limit Hold’em event. Scott Lazar reached the final table by competing in a field that had an incredible 5,619 entrants, making it the largest WSOP tournament of that year. It was only sheer misfortune and missed opportunities that saw Scott Lazar finishing where he did. In a crucial hand, after he had folded his pocket cards, out of which one was an Ace, Scott Lazar saw two more Aces show up on the flop. Adding fuel to the fire, the turn ended up to be the fourth Ace and he realized that he had missed out on such a golden opportunity.

Scott Lazar, in a interview, said that winning a gold bracelet at the World Series of Poker tournament is a big goal for him. He now works as a production assistant in independent films and claims that his children are the most important people in his life and that he wants to be there for them.
