About Scot Ackerman

A leading physician in his field, Scot Ackerman, MD is the Medical Director of First Coast Oncology in Jacksonville, Florida. Previously a student at Tulane University in New Orleans, Dr. Scot Ackerman earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. A former resident of one of the leading university-based research centers for radiation biology, Dr. Scot Ackerman studied Radiation Oncology at Columbia University in New York City. In recognition of his excellent work ethic, Dr. Scot Ackerman was named Chief Resident during his tenure at Columbia University as a Radiation Oncology Resident.
On completion of his board requirements, Dr. Scot Ackerman’s medical career began at First Coast Oncology as a Radiation Oncologist, where he serves as the Medical Director. An active participant in the latest developments in radiation therapy, Dr. Scot Ackerman was one of the first professionals to use brachytherapy in Northeast Florida. Brachytherapy is an effective new way to combat many tumors including prostate, and breast cancer. Dr. Scot Ackerman was also one of the first doctors to utilize AccuBoost, a radiation therapy for woman in the early stages of breast cancer.
Concerned that the treatment of cancer affects the whole family, and not just the patient, Dr. Scot Ackerman created the First Coast Cancer Foundation. The Foundation published Tastefully Surviving Cancer, a cookbook of recipes by cancer patients and their families. The proceeds from the book were used to promote cancer awareness. With a reputation for community service, Dr. Scot Ackerman remains committed to numerous Florida charities, including the American Cancer Society, and began his own scholarship program to encourage local youth to give back. The "Students Who Care" essay contest is in its second year, and rewards the Florida teenage winner with a personal laptop computer. A medical professional, Dr. Scot Ackerman holds membership in The American Brachytherapy Society: the Radiological Society of North America, Inc.; and the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology. Married with three children, Dr. Scot Ackerman resides in Jacksonville, Florida, where he enjoys hiking, bicycling, and running.
