About Satyakam Basu

Satyakam Basu - Professional Summary:

Noted steel industry executive Satyakam Basu possesses considerable knowledge about steel manufacturing and the acquisition and growth of steel producing companies. He began his career in the industry as a sales engineer and progressively worked through the ranks to take on positions of increasing responsibility and international scope. Educated at Jadavpur University for his metallurgical engineering degree and the Indian Institute of Management for his postgraduate studies, Satyakam Basu has a blend of technical and business experience that allowed him to succeed in his career.

Satyakam Basu currently manages all facets of the SAMSHI Group as the company Chairman. The company specializes in the production of steel pipes, specifically those of a larger size, up to 2,620 millimeters in diameter. His company creates pipes from six to 12.5 meters in length using processes certified by multiple bodies and standards, including ISO 9001:2000, the American Petroleum Institute, and the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Before joining SAMSHI Group, Satyakam Basu managed eastern European territory for Arcelor Mittal. He led multiple acquisitions of companies, including Ispat Sidex and Ispat Novahut (currently known as ArcelorMittal Galati and ArcelorMittal Ostrava) and then led revenue generation efforts for these firms post-acquisition. With the Romania-based Sidex, Mr. Basu eliminated the company’s convoluted barter system and instituted a more direct method of sales that resulted in immediate revenue generation. Mr. Basu also served on the Board of Directors for Ispat Annaba (now known as ArcelorMittal Annaba).

Prior to his time with Arcelor Mittal, Satyakam Basu was an executive of Essar Steel for four years, during which time he managed several key initiatives, such as new markets in the United States and throughout Europe. He concentrated on the sale of high-strength alloy steel (HSLA) and corrosion-resistant steel that is used by Chinese shipping firms to create long-lasting steel containers.

From 1994 to 1996, Satyakam Basu held the title of Director of Steel with Mobar, for which he began the first structured steel trading company in India. He also established CIS steel’s usage in higher-end applications, such as with electrical components.
