Sandra Calvi

Professional Summary:  

Reading remediation expert and high-level school administrator Dr. Sandra Calvi currently lends her talents to the Elmsford Union Free School District as Director of Research and Student Development and Director of Special Education. Serving in these positions since 2008, Dr. Calvi holds primary responsibility for the oversight and management of the District’s Special Education and Pupil Personnel Departments. In her directorship capacity, Dr. Calvi acts as a Chairperson for the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) and the Committee on Special Education (CSE) for the District, and she develops, oversees, and assesses all District programs and curricula for English Language Learner (ELL) students and students with disabilities. Furthermore, Dr. Calvi holds wide-ranging responsibilities for staffing her departments, monitoring compliance state and federal requirements, and overseeing the assessment and identification of students with special needs. Prior to her current position with Elmsford Union Free School District, Dr. Sandra Calvi acted as Assistant Principal for Elmsford’s Alexander Hamilton Junior/Senior High School. Throughout the course of her career, Dr. Calvi has held positions as a Reading Specialist with several high schools, as well as an elementary school, in the state of New York, including Spring Valley High School, where she also performed as English Department Chairperson. Dr. Calvi served as Adjunct Professor in the Reading Department at the Long Island University Graduate School of Education and an Associate Professor in the Department of Literacy at the College of New Rochelle Graduate School of Education. She currently acts as an Adjunct Professor at the Touro College Graduate School of Educational Psychology in addition to her other full-time professional responsibilities. To supplement her ongoing professional development, Dr. Sandra Calvi belongs to a number of prominent organizations, including ASCD, formerly the Association for Supervision Curriculum Development, and the Council of New York Special Education Administrators. As a testament to her outstanding academic performance as a student, Dr. Calvi also gained admission into the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education and the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society.
