About Sam Ruff
Sam Ruff, an accomplished high school science teacher, currently works at John Marshall High School in the Indianapolis Public School system. Here, he manages and designs educational activities in the areas of physics and integrated chemistry. Mr. Ruff is a member of many committees at the school, including the Technology Committee, the District Curriculum Mapping Committee for Integrated Chemistry/Physics and Chemistry, and the Extended Learning Committee.
Sam Ruff began his career in education with a position teaching high school environmental and earth sciences in the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township in Indianapolis. In his next position with the Avon Community School District, he taught physical science, applied physics, and earth space science to students at Avon High School in Avon, Indiana. In only 2 years at Avon High, enrollment in his earth space science class increased by a remarkable 200%. During his time at these school districts, Sam Ruff also coached the football and wrestling teams.
Sam Ruff considers his experiences as a classroom teacher and athletic coach to be among his greatest professional achievements. He spent four years with the Mill Creek Community School District in Clayton, Indiana, and two years with the Carmel Clay Schools in Carmel, Indiana, serving as Assistant Principal in both districts. In these positions, he took on numerous assignments, including revising and editing school disaster plans and staff and student handbooks. In addition, Mr. Ruff oversaw state-mandated testing and varsity sports programs, supervising athletic coaches and certified teaching faculty. As Assistant Principal at Carmel High School, Sam Ruff organized a successful media initiative to provide additional funding to the district through the passage of a $12 million tax referendum.
Outside of work, Mr. Ruff is an enthusiastic competitor in various athletic events. While attending the University of Indianapolis, he received the school’s distinguished Kelso M. Reid Mental Attitude Award due to his athletic skill and good sportsmanship as a champion wrestler. Presently, Mr. Ruff enjoys spending his time mountain biking, competing in events with his bicycle club, Team Nebo Ridge. He is also an adventure racer with Team Sasquatch, participating in several endurance sports, including kayaking and mountain biking.
