Ruston Jr Banal CFA

Ruston Banal Jr. is a professional photographer and graphic artist. He has a degree in Fine Arts (magna cum laude) at the University of the Philippines Diliman which he earned in 2005.

He was a former faculty at the Ateneo de Manila University as a Media Education and Art Appreciation teacher as well as an Art History and Photography professor at the University of the East College of Fine Arts.

He has worked as a graphic artist to several ad agencies as well as top T.V.networks and even made designs to World Class celebrities. One of his credits is the design for ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Big Brother trading cards.Ruston was also the concept artist, designer and curator of Museo Ning Betis.

His photos usually grace the front pages of SUNSTAR newspaper that depict different topics ranging from human interests, festivals and events and even social realism.

His recent photo award was from the 2007’s Philippine Airlines Photo Contest and his Kuraldal series was placed as "Photo of the Month" by the Federation of Philippine Photographers Cup.

He has a company named Ronzdarlhynne Design and Photography which co-owned by his fiance Ms. Rona Manalac.


Credentials:

June 2006- April 2007-Became an Art History Teacher on Asian Art and Western Art as well as Aesthetics courses and Basic Black and White Photography at the University of the East College of Fine Arts

2005-2006- Became a full-time faculty of Multi-media education, Art Appreciation and Visual Arts 1 at the Ateneo de Manila University for 2 semesters

2007- Official documentation and research assistant for the proposed biography book of National Artist Napoleon Abueva as part of the University of the Philippines Centennial major publication for 2008

2007-Created a coffee-table book entitled “The Legacy of Betis: Woodcarving its Place in Art and History which is about the material culture of the town of Betis that deals with the socio-economic, political and social aspects.

2007- Photographer to several Dulaang UP Plays-a company under the University of the Philippines Speech and Communication Department which creates theatrical plays of foreign and local stories. The latest project was a play entitled “The Passion of the Christ” which stars Romnick Sarmienta and Stella Cañete.

2007-CG artist and set photographer for the trading cards of ABS-CBN’s Rounin and Pinoy Big Brother T.V. series.

2007-Creative Director and Photographer of View Cards Enterprise-an ad agency which produces trading cards used for promotions and campaigns of products which has a website at www.viewcards.com.ph

2006- Concept artist and proponent for the University of the East College of Fine Arts project entitled “ Pintura en Situacion Real”-a simulation of famous paintings in 3-dimesional environment

2003-2005-Assistant to Prof.Armando Burgos of the UP College of Fine Arts in the conservation and restoration of “Arts and Science”, a mural painted by the National Artist Vicente Manansala located at Palma Hall in UP Diliman (Prof Armando Burgos teaches Art History courses at the University of the Philippines and educated in Florence Italy for his Art Restoration Diploma)


2007- Doing an on going research together with the faculty of the College of Fine Arts of UP Diliman and curators from Metropolitan Museum of Manila on the history of the town of Betis in Pampanga. Part of the research is to trace the roots of the town’s material culture, which is carving tradition from the Spanish Colonial period to present. A proposal from our team itself is being made to build an historical museum for the preservation of the culture of the town

2006- Currently maintaining a website for the Betis town’s history which showcases the furniture tradition of the Betis town and the church. Website e-mail address is www.betis.wetpaint.com

2005- Completed a thesis entitled “ Ang Tradisyon ng Dukit sa Betis “—a paper which illustrates the carving tradition of Betis, Guagua Pampanga from the time it was introduced, its development and continuing evolution in the present

2005-2006- Freelance graphic designer to couple of ad agencies and made some designs and presentations of collaterals for some restaurants and hotels in Quezon City. Part of the freelance job was creating a logo for a fruit juice company. Layout artist for an outdoor advertising company in the creation of flyers for their outdoor sites.

2003-2006- Freelance photographer on both digital and manual camera and made few lectures and discussions on studio lighting and studio set-up in some provinces particularly in Pampanga and Bulacan

2004-Curated an exhibit entitled “ Tagpo “ by a renowned international Filipino Artist Rodel Tapaya Garcia, an artist who was educated in New York and Finland. The exhibit was held in UP-Katipunan Terminal

2003- Illustrator of a psychology book published in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila which is composed of 100 illustrations

2002-2003- English tutor to a number of Ateneo students in a certain tutorial center along Katipunan Ave. Loyola Heights
