About Roy Winston


Roy Winston is a professional poker player who is definitely a multifaceted personality. He is also a doctor, founder of Laser Away in Rancho Mirage, commercial pilot, and he has also served in the military as Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy Reserve. He completed his residency at the University of Florida, College of Medicine, Gainesville, FL. He has served an internship in surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York, NY. He got his doctorate of Medicine from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY. Poker caught his attention and he started playing in tournaments from 2006. Encouraged by his winnings he took up playing poker for a full-time career in 2008. He received a lot of encouragement from his parents, Beverly and Arnold, who traveled all the way from New York to Atlantic City to support him at the final table in the Borgata Poker Open World Poker Tour (WPT) Event #12 – No-Limit Hold’em Championship and Roy Winston won the first prize with a huge sum of $1,549,780. Joe McGowan of La Quinta is his poker coach who also came to the Atlantic City in order to support him.


Roy Winston walked away with the third place and an amount of $7,789 at the Vegas Open Event #8 – No-Limit Hold’em in June 2006. He finished 11th in the Bellagio Cup II Tournament No-Limit Hold’em and earned $4,335 in July 2006. His 12th place finish at the Bellagio Cup II Tournament No-Limit Hold’em in August 2006 got him $2,675. Though he managed to finish only 46th at the Festa al Lago World Poker Tour Event - No-Limit Hold’em Championship in October 2006, he still earned a good sum of $16,700.


The year 2007 turned out to be a profitable one for Roy Winston as he won nine cashes which include two first places. He won the 5th place and $14,450 at the LA Poker Classic WPT Event Season 5 Event #8 – No-Limit Hold’em in February 2007. In July 2007, he bagged an awesome $333,490 for his 26th finish at the 38th Annual World Series of Poker Event #55 –No-Limit Hold’em Championship.


Roy Winston played brilliantly and had a remarkable victory at the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic WPT Season 6 No-Limit Hold’em where he walked away with $230,365 for his first place. In the same tournament, his 44th finish at the WPT No-Limit Hold’em Championship Doyle Brunson Classic fetched him $38,545.


Roy Winston secured the 4th place and took away $17,313 in the 2008 Crown Aussie Millions Championship – Poker Pages Ranking Hold’em and Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo in January. In the same tournament, his third-place finish fetched him $30,374 in Event #13 – Poker Pages Ranking Australian Heads-Up Championship. In April 2008, he had a great second-place finish at the Five Star World Classic Poker Classic WPT World Championship Season 6 Event #10 – No-Limit Hold’em and cashed $117,630. Roy Winston secured 39th position at the Bellagio Cup IV WPT Season 7 Event #8 – No-Limit Hold’em Championship and walked away with $32,320 in July 2008.


Apart from poker, Roy Winston has other interests like golf, hiking, scuba-diving, movies, flying airplanes, and also writing.
