Ross Turnbull is a football goalkeeper who was born on January 5, 1985 in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, England. In 2003, he has represented the England national football team in the U-20 level at the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Youth Championship.

Ross Turnbull began his youth club career with Middlesbrough and developed his goalkeeping skills with every match he played for the team. He has sharp reflexes and his tall figure enhances his goalkeeping position. He was with the Boros when they played the final match against Manchester United in the Football Association (FA) Youth Cup. Ross Turnbull progressed through the ranking system at Boro and moved to the first team of the club in 2002. His goalkeeping service was frequently sought on loan by clubs like Darlington, Barnsley and Bradford City. His loan periods were short for he appeared in only one match for Darlington, three for Barnsley and two for Bradford City.

Impressed with his goalkeeping techniques, the Barnsley club continued his loan period for the 2004-05 season also following which he played 23 matches for the team. Ross Turnbull was sent on a six-month loan to the Crewe Alexandra club in the 2005-06 season and gave his best in 29 appearances for the club.

On signing a year-long loan deal with Cardiff City, Football League Championship side, Ross Turnbull has replaced Neil Alexander, a former goalkeeper of the side, in July 2007. He represented Cardiff City in 6 matches before being recalled by Middlesbrough on October 5, 2007. Ross Turnbull came in as a replacement for injured goalkeeper, Mark Schwarzer, and helped his team to win 2-1 against Arsenal on December 9, 2007 at the Riverside Stadium. He competes with Brad Jones, also a goalkeeper of Middlesbrough, to play in the goalkeeping position for the team.
