About Rod Cook

Rod Cook - Professional Summary:     A lifelong resident of Clark County, Washington, located across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon, Rod Cook heads Alpine Auto Body, a full service auto collision repair service with three locations throughout Vancouver, Washington. He established the shop in his parents’ garage in 1975, and by 1976, he had rented a building and hired his first employee. While conventional wisdom might have favored locating his shop in neighboring Portland, Oregon, Rod Cook elected to keep his business in Vancouver, buying a 6,000-square-foot building there in 1979.

The 6,000-square-foot building was sufficient for Rod Cook and his four employees for a few years, but eventually it became cramped as the business grew. In 1986, he bought a parcel of land in the Orchards section of Vancouver, where he built a 15,000-square-foot building that was big enough to accommodate the business and its crew, which had grown to ten employees. He built a second building of 13,000-square-feet in the Mill Plain section of town in 1998 and hired ten more employees to keep it humming smoothly.

Alpine Auto Body’s third location, another 13,000-square-foot building in the nearby town of Hazel Dell, was built in 2002; Rod Cook hired ten more employees to staff it. He built a mechanical repair and express lube shop adjacent to the Orchards shop in 2009 and offered complete glass services at all locations in 2009. Today, Alpine Auto Body and its sister business, Alpine Auto Repair and Express Lube, employ 41 people and record annual revenues of $7.3 million. The largest enterprise of its kind in southwest Washington, it also draws a significant number of clients from nearby Multnomah County, Oregon.

During the years Rod Cook was growing his company, he was an enthusiastic member of the Vancouver community, serving in groups like the Chamber of Commerce, where he served on the board for four years, and the Autobody Craftsmen Association, which he served as Chapter President. Cook also belongs to numerous civic and service organizations, such as the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Clark County Rotary Club.
