About Robert Groves
Robert Groves - Professional Summary: A physician with executive experience in the development, management, and deployment of medical technologies and models, Robert Groves, MD, is recognized as a leader in his field. Dr. Robert Groves’ work in implementing complex Tele-ICU technologies into large medical systems has brought him recognition on a national level, and his work has been published in several medical journals.
Dr. Robert Groves is currently the Systems Medical Director of Critical Care at Banner Health, a nonprofit group of healthcare facilities based in Phoenix. At the start of his tenure at Banner Health, Dr. Groves implemented Tele-ICU technology, a technology for use by physicians to remotely monitor critical care units, from the ground up. In cooperation with several teams at facilities across the Banner network, Dr. Robert Groves worked on program development and evaluation models while ensuring staff were properly trained. As a result, the integration of Tele-ICU technology helped to significantly improve patient outcomes and reduce patient length of stay in over 300 beds within the Banner Health system. Dr. Robert Groves continues to be responsible for evaluating the use of Tele-ICU at Banner Health. In addition to his Tele-ICU duties, he improves clinical performance through several initiatives, including Clinical Informatics for Process Improvement. Dr. Robert Groves has also been selected to serve in an advisory capacity to recommend strategic objectives throughout the system.
Before his work at Banner Health, Dr. Robert Groves spent several years working in long-term care facilities in Greeley, Colorado, where worked to design and institute programs that improved outcomes for patients requiring ventilator assistance. He was also a co-inventor of a technology used to capture voice and turn it into data. Dr. Robert Groves graduated with a Doctor in Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia and worked as an intern and resident at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He served as a Fellow at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in pulmonary and critical care medicine, and he was also named a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
