While earning his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Southern California, Dr. Robert Dean Stebbins joined the United States Naval Reserve. He served his country from 1962 to 1970, joining the United States Medical Corps Reserve from 1967 to 1970. When he retired from the military, Robert Dean Stebbins, MD, completed an internship and residency at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center, where he remained to act as a Staff Physician for one year. After spending another year as a Research Associate in hematology at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons' Department of Pathology, he accepted the position of Assistant Attending Physician at New York’s Harlem Hospital Center. In 1973, Dr. Robert D. Stebbins began a fellowship in hematology at the New York University School of Medicine, where he acted as an Instructor in Medicine from 1974 to 1975. His next professional endeavors included a year as a Visiting Physician and Consulting Hematologist at Goldwater Memorial Hospital and a fellowship in oncology at the Yale University School of Medicine.
