Robert Claypool

Since enrolling in the U.S. Marine Corps’ The Basic School in 1983, Colonel Robert Claypool has earned an impressive number of awards and recognitions. He completed The Basic School’s training course as an honors graduate and went on to make the Commodore’s List at Naval Air Training Command in 1984. Colonel Claypool continued his education over the years, receiving honors designations at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Detachment Milton in 1997.  Colonel Robert Claypool also earned the James D. Forrestal Award for Excellence in Strategy and Force Planning from the Naval War College, where he graduated in the top 25% of the class of 2005. 

Marine Attack Squadron 214, which Colonel Claypool commanded from 2002 to 2004, earned the Presidential Unit Citation under his leadership. Robert Claypool also led Marine Aircraft Group 13 in earning the Marine Unit Citation while commanding the group from 2005 to 2007.

Robert Claypool also holds several military awards granted for meritorious service, including a Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit, and the Navy Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars. This indicates that he actually received the award three times, as subsequent recognitions are signified by a gold star rather than an entirely new medal. Colonel Claypool also received the Defense Superior Service Medal, an accolade only given to senior military officers in positions of great responsibility. In addition to these honors, he earned a number of various unit and campaign awards.
