About Richard Waterfield

A prominent business executive and dedicated philanthropist, Richard Waterfield brings nearly two decades of financial experience to his position as Co-Chairman of Waterfield Group (www.waterfield.com), one of America's largest private financial services companies. In his role with the firm, he oversees a network of companies operating in several arenas, including asset management, private equity, hedge funds, investment banking, merchant banking, financial technology, and real estate. Waterfield Group has managed transactions valued at more than $200 billion in over 50 countries across the globe from offices in New York, Los Angeles, Austin, Indianapolis, Beijing, Taipei, Seoul, and Mexico City. 

Mr. Waterfield attended Columbia University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and is a member of MENSA. While still in school, he authored and co-authored several well-received reports, including a 1994 treatise on the coming California banking crises that received mention in the Wall Street Journal as well as a 1993 study of the S&L Crises and its impact on market volatility. He began his business career under the tutelage of George M. Salem, Prudential Securities' renowned bank stock analyst, and received further training under Robert B. Alberton, Head of Global Bank Stock Analysis at Goldman Sachs & Co. (www.gs.com). In 1997, Mr. Waterfield and his brother, J. Randall Waterfield, founded one of Wall Street's first hedge funds, Fife Waterfield & Co., with Eugene V. Fife, former Chairman of Goldman Sachs International. 

Since joining Waterfield Group, Richard Waterfield has spearheaded a number of successful transactions, including the 2006 pre-crises sale of Waterfield Mortgage Company, then the nation's largest private mortgage company, as well as the 2006 pre-crises sale of Union Federal Bank, one of America's largest community banks, and the largest in the State of Indiana. Mr. Waterfield also supervised the founding of National InterBank and UFB Direct (www.ufbdirect.com), two of America's most successful Internet banks, a well as the formation of Waterfield Private Equity Funds I, II, & III. 

In addition to his work in the financial sector, Mr. Waterfield actively participates in politics and policy making at both the local and national level through his contributions to the Republican National Committee. He also advocates for a number of charities and nonprofit organizations, both privately and through the Waterfield Foundation. Among the many groups he supports are the Heritage Foundation, Columbia University, Culver Military Academy, Outward Bound, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Navy Seal Foundation, and Feed America.
