Over the course of his career, Richard W. Bank, MD, has provided consultation to many biotechnology companies, including Accentia Biopharmaceuticals, Inc.; Atherysis, Inc.; Bradmer Pharmaceuticals Inc.; Guilford Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; and Protein Design Labs, Inc. His work with Guilford Pharmaceuticals in 1997 and 1998 led to the reconfiguration of the Gliadel Wafer, making the treatment for metastatic brain cancer available to 120,000 patients each year, whereas the previous shape could only be used in 11,000 patients annually.
In 2003, Richard W. Bank, MD, played a key role in launching Arbios Systems, Inc., with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, providing fundraising and effecting a reverse-merger into a NASDAQ shell company. He also facilitated design of the protocol for the company’s SEPET(™) Liver Assist Device and HepatAssist(™), the bioartificial liver. Richard W. Bank, MD, sat on Arbios Systems’ board from its formation until 2006. Dr. Richard W. Bank spent the early 80s as the Chief Gynecologist at the Beverly Hills Medical Center and Century City Hospital in Los Angeles. He was the Senior Attending Physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center until 1995 and started service in 1981 as the Medical Commissioner for the Games of the XXIII Olympiad held in Los Angeles. For 30 years, Dr. Bank has been an active member of the faculty at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, where he serves as a Clinical Professor Emeritus in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
