About Richard L. Verkler

Since 2002, Richard L. Verkler has served as Of Counsel with Schiff Hardin LLP in Chicago, Illinois. Among his many duties, Richard L. Verkler oversees the firm’s Lake Forest office and practices general business and corporate law, including such matters as corporate governance and regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions, nonprofit organizations, executive compensation, and privately held business issues. Richard L. Verkler also handles civil and criminal contested tax matters, litigation avoidance and dispute resolution, labor and employment matters, and business succession planning.


Prior to joining Schiff Hardin LLP, Richard L. Verkler spent 40 years practicing law with Jenner & Block. Beginning in the firm’s litigation group, Richard L. Verkler became a partner in the corporate and tax areas. Verkler was a longstanding member of Jenner & Block’s Executive and Finance Committees.


Recognized as an expert in his field, Richard L. Verkler shares his extensive knowledge in legal publications. Some of Richard L. Verkler’s topics include “Buying, Selling, or Dissolving a Professional Practice,” "Dealing with the Retirement, Death, or Disability of a Professional Practitioner," "Professional Practice," and "Buy-Sell Agreements in Professional Partnerships." Richard L. Verkler holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin. Before attending law school, Richard L. Verkler attended the University of Illinois, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. During his academic career at the University of Illinois and the University of Wisconsin, Richard L. Verkler was named an Illinois State Scholar and a Knapp Scholar, respectively.


Outside of his professional life, Richard L. Verkler stays active by hiking, hunting, and fishing.
