Based in Munster, Indiana, Retriever Merchant Solutions has provided top-level, non-cash payment processing systems for close to a quarter of a century. President and owner Brian Kamstra leads more than 100 employees and 250 sales agents dedicated to offering a range of point-of-sale, mobile, and stationary processing systems that meet the needs of the company's more than 30,000 retail, wholesale, and organizational clients.
In 1975, National Processing Company (NPC), the precursor to Retriever Merchant Solutions, opened as a subsidiary of the First National Bank of Louisville. In 1996, NPC became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
Mr. Kamstra entered the merchant payment industry in 1993, and continued adding to his knowledge through a long-standing friendship with fellow industry executive Jim Oberman. In 1999, Mr. Kamstra joined his Select Merchant Service one-employee sales office to the NPC/Retriever family.
Five years later, Select Merchant Service had become a leading NPC/Retriever office and began to channel investment into technology. That same year the company saw a rebranding as the company, combined the Retriever label in the bankcard merchant payment sector with the growing visibility of Select Merchant Service. Along with this rebranding came a long-range agreement to offer credit and debit card processing to NPC’s merchant clientele.
In 2015, the Retriever Merchant Solutions acquired land in Munster as the site of its new headquarters, opened the following year. Today, it continues this legacy of growth as it establishes new relationships with companies in industries from bricks-and-mortar wholesale to online retail.
