Rene Mouritsen, a talented poker player from Copenhagen, Denmark is popular for his final table appearances in the World Series of Poker tournament. His poker career began back in the year 2004, when he finished in eleventh place in the Aruba Poker Classic/World Poker Tour Event Season 3 No-Limit Hold'em game and made $1,117 in prize money. In the same event the following day, he finished tenth and cashed in another $1,048.

In 2005, Rene Mouritsen entered the 36th Annual World Series of Poker and played in Event 31 WSOP No-Limit Hold'em. He cashed $10,426 in the PartyPoker Million IV during the WPT Season 3 Limit Hold'em event in the same year. In 2006, he made a sum of $38,759 from the 37th Annual World Series of Poker while playing in Event 39 No-Limit Hold'em Championship WSOP Final. Later that same year, he competed in the Seven Card Stud Super Final event of The Big Double - the 17th European Seven Card Stud Championship, EPT Event Season 3, and finished in fifth place, taking home $32,333.

His first big breakthrough came in the year 2007, when he participated in the 38th Annual World Series of Poker tournament. He finished second in Event 50 - WSOP Pot-Limit Omaha World Championship and won $464,877. In the same tournament, Rene Mouritsen outlasted many other talented poker players to get the runner-up title for the WSOP No-Limit Hold'em Mixed event and went home with $125,895. He proved his skill at poker once again in the WSOP No-Limit Hold'em Short Handed event when he added another $21,898 to his bankroll.

In 2008, Rene Mouritsen was the runner-up in the 39th World Series of Poker, Event 44 - WSOP No-Limit Hold'em and went home with a solid sum of $445,523. The winner of Event 44, Max Greenwood from Toronto, Canada, took 33 hands of heads-up play to beat the formidable Rene Mouritsen.

The final table took about five and a half hours. When Js 4s 5s came on the flop, Rene Mouritsen was given the opportunity to begin first. He seized the opening and lead out with a bet of 175,000. Eventually, Max Greenwood countered with a check-raise, kicking it up to 500,000. Rene Mouritsen moved all in with Kh Jh, but Max Greenwood had Ah Jd, giving him the advantage. Rene Mouritsen just needed a king to double up and stay alive, but the board did not comply. After the turn and the river, Max Greenwood won the 2008 WSOP bracelet. Besides this major event, Rene Mouritsen also won $16,849 in prize money during Event 34 - WSOP Pot-Limit Omaha in 2008. Later that year, he ranked fifth in the Binions Poker Classic Shootout No-Limit Hold'em event and added $1,710 to his earnings.

As of July 2008, Rene Mouritsen has made a total of $1,166,375 in live tournament earnings and has placed well in 12 cash games.
